Going to the grocery store used to be so stressful and time consuming for us because we never really went there knowing what we wanted. Since starting our low carb lifestyle, things have gotten a lot easier. We typically shop with the below list and add spices that we might need that week for special recipes. Sunday nights are usually our grocery trips, so this is enough food for a week plus. We often don't use all of this in a week so we spill over to the next. We live very close to a Trader Joes, so we shop there a lot and love the affordable, organic foods.
What to buy:
Proteins
-A small carton of egg whites and a pack of cage free organic eggs
-Boneless chicken breast or thigh (Trader Joes also has precooked chicken which is great for salads during the week)
-Turkey bacon
-Grass fed ribeye steaks or ground beef (we buy organic from Trader Joes)
-Boneless porkchops
-Fish (salmon, tuna, shrimp, or a white fish that is on special)
Legumes
-Two to three packs of lentils (love, love, love the Trader Joes pre-cooked package)
-A couple cans of beans (red beans, black beans, garbanzo beans, etc)
Vegetables
-Spinach and maybe a bag of arugula for lunch salads
-Vegetables that are easy to cut and throw in a pan with olive oil (broccoli, tomatoes, cauliflower, peppers). You could even buy frozen packs of mixed vegetables.
-Asparagus
-Peas
-Green beans
Guilty pleasures
-Cheese (usually we go with goat or cheddar)
-Red wine (we stick to Pinot Noir)
-Coffee!! (we can't live without it)
-Almond or coconut milk for the coffee
-Non-fat Greek yogurt
-Raw nuts for snacking
